Spellings

It is really important that all children practise their spellings. They will be given out on a Monday with testing taking place the following Monday.

By the end of year 6, all children are expected to be able to spell a set list of statutory words. A copy of these words is attached below for you to learn.

6R will be tested on words from the statutory list as detailed below. Children can practise the spelling rules needed using an online tool that they have all been shown how to use in class.

Reading

All children have a home reader and should be reading at home every week.

Topic Homework

Each half term children will be given a topic based homework grid (below) which has a number of different kinds of activities for the children to complete based around our current topic. During Autumn term, this is World War 2. This homework gives the children a chance to show off their creative side as well as their own independent learning.  The children are to bring at least one piece of homework from the grid each week which can then be added to our World War 2 display in class.

Additional Homework

On occasion children may be given additional homework that is linked to the learning done in class. This could include additional Maths and English to ensure an understanding of the areas being covered in lessons.

Times Tables

It is an age related expectation that children should know all of their times tables (up to x 12) by the end of year 4. Therefore, it is very important that your child practises their times tables at home. There are lots of online games that encourage children to learn times tables, a few of which have been linked to below.

Children can of course use Timestable Rockstars to practise too
