English

During this half term we will be focusing on improving our comprehension skills by reading texts from different genres.

Our main aim is to improve our reading skills by increasing our vocabulary knowledge and use in context. It is essential that the children all read everyday and enrich their spoken and written vocabulary on a daily basis. Just think if we add only 3 words a day to our 'word bank' we will have over a 1,000 new words to use; I think we could aim for at least 5 a day!

Our English work will be based on our book Listen to the Moon which links to our World War 1 topic and our work about the world's oceans. We will be looking at the themes within this book and creating our own stories based around it.

Spelling reminder-children need to learn not just the word but an antonym and synonym too so that they understand the words and can use them in their own writing too.
